FAQ — Custom Baseball Glove Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers from the people who actually build the product — Carlos Castillo (former MLB pitcher, White Sox / Red Sox / NPB / CPBL) and Julio Teherán (2× MLB All-Star, former Braves). If your question isn't here, email hello@kachigloves.com.

The Custom Glove Process

How long does it take to build a custom glove?

Typical lead time is 6 weeks from design approval to your doorstep. Need it faster? Our Ready-to-Ship gloves use the same Japanese Kip leather and ship in 3–5 business days.

Can I talk to someone before I order?

How customizable is the glove?

Very. You pick position, size, web style, pocket depth, leather color (14 options + 4 specialty fades), lacing color and pattern, embroidery (name, number, verse, team logo), and flag embroidery. Heritage-flag embroidery covers 11 Latin & Caribbean nations (Dominican, Cuban, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Colombian, Panamanian, Nicaraguan, Curaçaoan, Aruban, Brazilian) — free on every custom build. Can I preview what it'll look like?

Yes, the configurator shows a live visual preview as you build. Full walkthrough of every decision: How to Customize a Baseball Glove — A Former MLB Pitcher's Guide.

Sizing & Fit

What size glove do I need?

Depends on position, hand size, and league level. The quick version is on our Size Guide. The deeper version, written by Carlos based on how he sizes gloves at the Kachi Baseball academy, is the Kachi Academy Fitting Guide.

Will my glove be too stiff out of the box?

What if I'm between sizes?

Go up if you're a youth player still growing. Go down (or stay at the middle of the range) if you're an adult — oversized gloves are floppy and make fielding technique worse, not better. Full reasoning: the fitting guide.

Materials

What's Japanese Kip leather?

The professional standard in Japan's NPB and Taiwan's CPBL, and increasingly at the MLB level. ~30% lighter than US steerhide, roughly 2× stronger due to tighter grain structure. Carlos pitched with it in both Asian leagues — Kachi sources from the same tannery network that supplies the NPB pro market. Full breakdown: Japanese Kip vs. Steerhide vs. US Kip.

Do you offer non-Japanese-Kip options?

Yes. Our value-tier custom builds and select Standard line products use US Steerhide — durable, affordable, the workhorse American glove leather. The full material comparison is in the Japanese Kip explainer.

Where are Kachi gloves made?

Custom and stock gloves are manufactured by specialist Japanese glove factories that also supply professional-level equipment in NPB and CPBL. Designed, tested, and finished in Miami.
